Song Review: Breaking Up by bnny

chloerowe5959

The strumming of a solemn acoustic guitar begins as whispered vocals bleed into the beat.

Behind it all lays a subtle crackling, the song feeling worn and old. It's nostalgic, much like the lyrics, which recall a love gone by.

"I'm looking at photos remembering when...breaking up and making up and breaking up again."

Feelings of love, loss and memories tainted by time are imbued within every line, every drag of the bass, and every slow beat of the drums.

The missing love that is explained in simple words is emphasised by a thrum of the electric guitar that drags and pulls heavy on the heartstrings.

This new single from Chicago quartet bnny has arrived nine months after their previous single I'm Just Fine which was released in January of this year and also recounts past lovers, a frequent theme within bnny's discography.

The slow dance pace of Breaking Up along with vocalist Jessica's layered whispered vocals feels like a lull, one which leaves you morose yet strangely comforted in the story of love gone by.
